Occasionally I fall for really random pairings, and while I may not do anything constructive about them, I remain very fond of the idea of them. One such is John Isner/Nicholas Mahut from the Wimbledon epic match of epic neverendingness of two years ago.

Against all the odds, they were drawn against each other again last year, which made me ridiculously happy, even though the ensuing match wasn't all that remarkable. Anyway, I knew they'd both gone out this year in the second round, and was vaguely sad. Then Twitter suggested following Isner's account. I had a look, out of curiosity, and one of the first things I saw was this exchange:

mahut

Suffice to say, it made me a happy bunny.

Oh my goodness, this is really cute. I have an odd fondness for the idea of Isner/Mahut as well.

*snickers* now I want Isner/Mahut broom closet fic...

I am sad that Sergiy Stakhovsky has gone out, after beating Roger - he seemed so sweet! (and I read that for every ace he plays on tour he donates £5 to cancer charities. *pinches his cheeks*)

Stakhovsky did seem very sweet, I agree!

The first tennis match my kids ever watched was Federer vs del Potro in the Olympic semi(?)-finals last year. For some reason, he chose to support the man he called "Epic Blue Guy" (blue shirt vs Roger's red one), and was very annoyed when Roger won.

So when we watched Federer vs Stakhovsky, Stakhovsky was "Epic Sergiy" and youngest was very pleased indeed when he beat Federer!

And now I want to watch del Potro play his third-round match and the BBC don't seem to know he exists.
