Stormbreaker

It's always gratifying when something you think's going to be a bit crap turns out to be really rather good. Not since Fight Club have I unexpectedly enjoyed a film as much as Stormbreaker. Although I suspect it may have been mainly for the wrong reasons...
For a start - Alex Pettyfer. Guh. How old is he? I surely can't actually be allowed to fancy him?too late.
And - it's supposed to be set in Cornwall, but was filmed on the Isle of Man; cue much shouting of "that was Castletown" and the like. And in the 'driving along the coast road' bits, part of my brain kept expecting them to swish past three motoring journalists with blue and white umbrellas...(oh, AND, and, Jimmy Carr was randomly in it. WTF?)
AND, slash has broken my brain. The bit at the end, between Alex and Gregorovich? "I'll never forget you" and the look they exchanged? Excuse me? Damn, I'm going to have to read the rest of them now. In a completely new light...
Anyway, I'd been slightly disappointed with the book, there were several bits that annoyed me. So rather than (as normal) getting cross with the bits they'd changed for the film (although it was Anthony Horowitz doing his own screenplay which obviously helped) I actually found it vastly improved. Even the added bits they'd stuck in were inspiredly mad. Especially the fight between Miss Vole and Jack, with the clips on the telly behind them mirroring what was going on.
