I don't think I've ever hurled a book across the room in disgust at the ending before, but you, The Hunger Games, have made me do it.

Admittedly, pretty much all the way through I couldn't decide if I actually liked it or not. It's very compellingly written, which is what made me keep reading, but most (practically all) of the characters need a bloody good slap and I never really felt I was enjoying it. Certainly not like The Mortal Instruments books, where I wanted to take up permanent residence in that universe and couldn't wait to read the rest. Really don't know if I can be arsed to read the rest of the trilogy here. Meh.

Anybody read the rest? Are they worth sticking with?

Do you recommend the Mortal Instruments? I have trouble getting past what I know about the author's fandom fail...

As for the Hunger Games, I've heard good things from some people and bad things from some people, so I figure they're the kind of books you give a chance and decide on for yourself. (which I still haven't done, heh)

I love The Mortal Instruments with a slightly unhinged passion. I read the whole of the first book in one sitting. So - yeah, I would recommend them. I know not everyone likes them so much - but then I also know there's a lot of people equally nutty about THG so - depends on what you like I guess! #nothelpful

haha, I keep thinking about giving them a shot 'cause they do intrigue me...maybe I'll give 'em a go this summer.

haha, nah, that was helpful.

Well, I loved them, but I (metaphorically - it was on my ebook reader) hurled the first Mortal Instruments book across the room.

Fair enough LOL. I was enticed to read it in the first place by so many people who seemed to love both, but am coming to realise there is a bit of a fandom divide, haha.

I enjoyed all three, but the first book (and the second - the third was a little 'eh' for me) was definitely the best one, so maybe if you didn't enjoy it, moving on wouldn't be advised ;)

Thanks for the advice! I've been eyeing - not spoilers exactly but reactions to the others on Tumblr, and suspect they might just make me cross :D

The only people I've heard raving about The Hunger Games also happen to be fans of Twilight - conclude from that what you will... (admittedly this might be because it's marketed as a YA series)

LMAO XD
It does have a fangirly quote from stephanie Meyer on the cover. Although to be fair so do the TMI books. I guess you win some you lose some!

By the end of the 3rd book, you'll want to shoot yourself in the face. Don't put yourself through it, for the love of god LOL

I really enjoyed them ha, it seems I'm alone on that one! I bawled my eyes out at the first one, but admittedly I was thirteen when I read it. This is probably just me, but I can't read part of a trilogy or series and not finish it, I have to know what happens! In my opinion the first is the best of the three so if you didn't enjoy it, maybe read the first few chapters of the second one and if you're still not enjoying them don't bother..

If you take any advice from this, PLEASE let it be this; if you decide you want to give the others a go, do it soon, because they're making the books into a film, and that could possibly wreck your opinion of the entire thing. I have an awful feeling that the film is going to suck eggs, especially since some reviewers have speculated that it may be the next Twilight. Which I ~really~ hope not :/ I loved Twilight when was 12 then a combination of the films, oversensationalisation and me growing up in general and five years later I can't stand it..

Sorry the advice kind of turned into a rant.. I do that. I'll finish on a light note though, although I prefer the first book, the characters do improve as the trilogy progresses (:

Haha no I don't think you're alone on here, but still not sure they're really my thing. Especially if there's forking out cash involved LOL.

Yeah, I looked at the cast list on IMDB...erm... :S

The cast list is terrible!! I was really looking forward to the film until they released the cast list! I quite like Donald Sutherland as President Snow, but he's the only casting choice I can make my peace with
I especially dislike Katniss and Cinna, but that's probably because I had such clear images in my head of what they should be like. I would have cast Kaya Scodelario as Katniss without a shadow of a doubt, and I really liked the idea of Hugh Dancy as Cinna (:
